| Description | An Act of 1900 raised the minimum age for child labour working underground to 13. Copies of birth certificates were required to prove the age of children, along with labour certificates proving they had satisfied the requirements of school attendance, issued by the Derbyshire Education Committee. The certficates were originally in envelopes by person, but are now sorted into bundles arranged alphabetically by surname. Several certificates are stamped as received at Union Offices, Chesterfield. A few certificates pre-date the implentation of the Act. |
