NotesA village in the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park, situated on the River Dove near the northern end of Dovedale. It was an important market centre from the medieval period and is closely associated with the cheese-making traditions of the Peak District. The Tissington Trail, which follows the route of the former railway between Buxton and Ashbourne, passes close to the village. The station buildings were demolished following the line's closure, but the former LNWR signal box has been preserved as a visitor centre on the Trail.
