Ruskin; John (1819-1900); Critic, art historian, social reformer and philanthropist. Famously denounced the building of the railway at Monsal Dale, Derbyshire. Founded the Guild of St George in 1871 to champion agriculture and traditonal crafts, including a colony at Totley which failed.
