Paxton; Sir; Joseph (1803-1865); English gardener, architect and Member of Parliament, best known for designing The Crystal Palace; also designed gardens and glasshouses at Chatsworth.
Whitworth; Sir; Joseph (1803-1887); 1st baronet; Engineer, entrepreneur, inventor and philanthropist. Invented the British Standard Whitworth system, creating an accepted standard for screw threads. Also invented the Whitworth rifle. Lived at Stancliffe Hall, Darley Dale.
