History
The firm was first established in 1860 by William Oliver, but later purchased in 1889 by Mr. C.P. Markham. They manufactured a variety of components including castings, weights, winding gear, turbines etc. They were also heavily involved in the construction of bridges and tunnels. The firm increased in size during the early years of the twentieth century, changing its name to Kvaerner Markham Ltd in 1996. The Broad Oaks works in Chesterfield were finally closed in 1997 when the firm relocated to Sheffield.
