History
The association was founded following a representative meeting of lime burners and quarry owners at the Victoria Hotel in Manchester on 5 July 1905. The organisation was established to examine and take action upon issues of common interest to the lime and limestone industry. These included matters relating to Acts of Parliament, board of trade regulations, Home Office regulations, charges for conveyance of minerals and for railway siding accommodation. The association's remit also included examining any important cases in which proceedings were taken against a member and to provide mutual assistance in all matters of common interest.
The organisation appears to have undergone a number of structural and name changes in its history. The association began as the Lime and Limestone Industry of Great Britain (with these papers including the North West Yorkshire District which later became the Central Association) in 1905, changing its name to the Lime and Limestone Federation of Great Britain sometime between May to November 1944. In 1946 the organisation ceased to exist as a separate entity when it amalgamated with The Britain Limestone (Roadstone) Federation.
