HistoryYeardsley-cum-Whaley Local Board dated from 1863. Under the Public Health Act 1872 Local Boards of Health were designated Urban Sanitary Authorities and in 1894, these authorities became Urban District Councils under the Local Government Act of that year. By the Chester and Derby Order, 1935 Whaley Bridge was transferred from Cheshire to Derbyshire and the new parish and urban district of Whaley Bridge was formed, comprising parts of the parishes of Yeardsley-cum-Whaley, Disley, Kettleshulme and Taxal, and Chapel-en-le-Frith and Fernilee.
Other InformationLocal Boards of Health were first set up in 1848 to administer services which related to public health in populated areas not covered by Borough Councils.
