HistoryThe first Primitive Methodist Church in Chesterfield opened in 1827 at Brampton, when Methodism was already well established in the area.

In 1888, the Chesterfield Primitive Methodist Circuit split into three:
- Chesterfield 1st Circuit (later known as Holywell Cross and Staveley Circuit): Holy Well Cross, Brimington, Brimington Common, Stonegravels, New Brampton and Derby Lane Misson
- Chesterfield 2nd Circuit (later Mount Zion Circuit): Mount Zion, Hasland, Brampton, Holymoorside, Cutthorpe, Wadshelf, Calow Green, Barlow and Newbold
- Chesterfield 3rd Circuit: Whittington Moor, Whittington, Apperknowle, Barrow Hill, New Whittington, Sheepbridge and Unstone. Most of these joined the Mount Zion Circuit after the unification of the Methodist Church in 1932.
