History
Thomas and Joseph Hutton started business at the Pheonix Works, Ridgeway, Eckington in 1821-1822. They manufactured scythe, sickles and hooks. By around 1830 some 30 to 40 workmen were employed. In 1844-1845 Thomas took into partnership his son John Jermyn and his nephew Edward Newton. The firm continued to be known as Hutton and Newton until c.1862 when it became Hutton & Co.
