History
Highfield opened before 1947 as one of two homes in the former Belper Union Girl's Home at 50-52 Holbrook Road (the other home being West Bank). In 1952, the two homes were again administered as a single home known as Highfield. In 1953 the number of beds was reduced from 24 to 16. In 1962, a proposal was made to close the home and approved was obtained for appropriation to County Health.
