Biography
Bryan Donkin was born in born Sandhoe, Northumberland, in 1768. He perfected a mechanised process for paper making, setting up a business to manufacture paper making machines. He also was the first manufacturer of cans for preserving food. He established the firm of Bryan Donkin & Co Ltd, which began in Bermondsey, London, later relocating to Chesterfield.
