| Biography | Born Tafari Makonnen, Haile Seassie became Regent Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia in 1916 and reigned as Emperor 1930-1936. Between 1936 and 1941, whilst Ethiopia was under Italian occupation, he was exiled, spending most of his time in the United Kingdom. He returned to Ethiopia in 1941, where he reigned until his death in 1974.
He had seven children: Princess Romanework (1909-1940), Princess Tenagenwork (1912-2003), Crown Prince Amha Selassie (1916-1997), Princess Tsehai (1919-1942), Prince Makonnen, Duke of Harar (1924-1957), Prince Sahle Selassie (1932-1962). |
