| Biography | Thomas Frederick, son of Thomas Frederick (b. 1873), a painter and decorator, and Mary Barton (b. 1873) of 61 Franchise Street, Derby (parish of St Luke), was born on 20 February 1895. By age 16 he was working as Grocer's Assistant and living with his parents and five siblings (1911 Census). He married Frances Mary Henshaw (1894-1982) on 3 September 1923, and is described as a Salesman in the marriage register. They lived together at 25 Otter Street, Derby, with their sons Michael (b. 1933) and John (b. 1935). By 1939, he was Grocery Department Manager, presumably at the Co-operative Society, where he ultimately became president of the Derby and Burton branch.
"Tom" was baritone singer, performing with the choir at St Luke's Church, Derby, and with the Derby Opera Company. |
