BiographyBaptised on 24 June 1803 at Walton upon Trent, Henry was one of 13 children of Edward Miller mundy and Nelly Barton. Destined for a career in the navy, he first served under Captain John Richard Lumley on HMS Topaze, which he joined around his 14th birthday, probably as 'a young gentleman', an unofficial term for boys entering the Royal Navy to train to become a commissioned officer, and later as a Midshipman. In April 1818 the HMS Topaze sailed to Ceylon and the East Indies. By October 1820, Henry had transferred to the flagship of Rear-Admiral Henry Blackwood, HMS Leander, under Captain Charles Richardson. Whilst in the East Indies, Henry suffered from ill health. He returned to England with HMS Leander in 1822 keen to continue in the navy on a new ship. He died, however, at the age of 19 on 12 April and was buried at Heanor on 23 April 1823.
