History
In 1709, Edward Large devised certain lands in Derby to Trustees for the purpose of building 5 small almshouses for 5 poor Parsons or Vicars' widows, with the profits of the estate being divided equally amongst them. Sometime in the 1720s, one of these almshouses, Large's Hospital, was built on Nun's Green, Derby. It consisting of 5 small dwellings under one roof, with inmates paying £30 each.
