History
Pewit Colliery was said to have been owned by Messrs Ward and Chambers, when the partnership bought out previous owners in 1860. The mine was later owned by the Hadrwick Colliery Company Limited. The colliery was abandoned on 17 Feb 1898. The main shaft was filled in in November 1950 and capped in June 1961.
