Associated with collieries for over 40 years. Director and Mining Consultant to the Butterley Company: joined the Board in 1927 and retired from active service in 1934, but remained on the Board as a director and consultant. President of the Institution of Mining Engineers for two successive years. Chairman for many years of the Nottinghamshire Miners Wages Board.
