History | Orphaned by the premature deaths of her parents in India, she accompanied Franklin and his family to Van Diemen's Land, when he was appointed Lieutenant Governor there in 1836. On 12 June 1838 at Hobart she married John Giles Price, convict administrator, who was killed by convicts in March 1857. They had 8 children, six of whom lived to be adults: John Frederick later known as Sir Frederick Price (1839-1927), James Franklin (born 1841, slain by natives of Mulgrave Island in the Torres Strait in 1878), Thomas Caradoc later known as Colonel Tom Price (1842-1911), Emily Mary (born 1845), Anna Clara (born 1846) and Jane de Winton (born c.1850). |
