Biography
He trained at Guy's Hospital, London as a surgeon; he founded Southam Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1818, supported by voluntary donations and subscriptions for the benefit of poor people unable to afford appropriate treatment; he set up in 1823 the first "Provident Dispensary" for labourers subscribing small amounts weekly to receive free consultations, medicines and treatment, when needed.
