History
After studying medicine, he changed career and moved into journalism, working initially for Scottish newspapers, then moving to London to work for the Daily Herald, the Daily Express and the Sunday Express; in 1943 he became picture editor and feature writer for Picture Post, where he was a serious investigative journalist; when Picture Post stopped publication in 1957, he moved into television, becoming one of the popular reporters on BBC TV's 'Tonight' an early evening magazine programme; he also presented longer documentaries, including a series on museums entitled 'Brush Off The Dust' in 1964; he later contributed regularly to Twenty-Four Hours' and 'Nationwide'.
