He worked in the building boom that followed the Restoration and the Great Fire of London, being master mason for four churches of Christopher Wren and parts of St Paul's Cathedral. His practice included both architectural design and the execution of wood and stone ornamentation. He also had a reputation as a sculptor, although relatively few of these works have survived.
