Administrative History
Derbyshire County Council officially came into existence on 1 April 1889 following the Local Government Act of 1888 and succeeded the Derbyshire County Quarter Sessions as the primary administrative authority in the county (excluding the county borough, later city of Derby). The County Quarter Sessions retained its judicial function until 1974.
Custodial History
These records have been inherited by and transferred to Derbyshire Record Office since 1962. Regular additions have been made since 2017.
