TitleWeight Restriction / Prohibition of Vehicles orders: Lower Bolehill Road Anything exceeding 4 tons prohibited
Date20/06/1949
DescriptionLocation: Wirksworth
Comprising:

The Derbyshire County Council (Roads Restriction) (No. 1) Order, 1949, prohibiting any vehicle weighing more than four tons from driving on Lower Bolehill Road, from Nan Gell's Hill for 1007 yards running south-east to the junction with the class III road at Wirksworth Moor. Clause 2 makes exceptions for uses connected with goods deliveries to adjacent premises, agriculture, road repairs, etc. Dated 20 June 1949, endorsed with confirmation from an Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, 5 Dec 1949.

Copy letter to the Ministry of Transport, enclosing the sealed order with a request for confirmation. The letter explains that the order was made at the request of Wirksworth Urban District Council, "as the road was affected by a landslide in 1947 and has since been closed". Notes that the Chief Constable suggested a 6-ton limit because "the restriction to 4 tons would cause hardship to tradesmen delivering goods in the road or to farmers taking loads along the road" but that Clause 2 had been inserted to overcome this objection. The letter is typed on the reverse of a damaged page from a report on plans to develop the accommodation of the county's fire services and ambulance services.

County Surveyor's plan of Lower Bolehill Road at scale 1:2500, marked up to show proposed alternative route for heavy traffic, 11 Apr 1949.
