| Administrative History | The North East Midland Photographic Record, which became more commonly known as Picture the Past, was jointly managed by the local authorities of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire with financial assistance for the first three years from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project started in 2002 and was kept running until 2017 when funding for the project team was withdrawn. The 'Picture the Past' website was then taken over by a private company. The website was created to allow service users to access the photographic heritage of the North East Midlands online, thus enabling people to see the richness and diversity of the area's photographic collections. Images were drawn from all over the region and scanned as high-resolution, archival TIFF files before being returned to their original location. |
