| Description | Printout of parish survey database as at 18 Jul 1992, sorted alphabetically by parish. Records a parish priority code A to E, parish name, deanery, collection reference, date of survey, initials of archivist, whether registers and records are old or modern, and overall rating for conditions. Priority codes relate to the requirements of a 1992 amendment to the Parochial Registers and Records Measure 1978. The original measure required deposit of registers with a final entry of 100 years ago. The amendment required deposit of all registers (except post-1837 marriage registers) started over 150 years ago, even if they are still in use.
Typed lists of parishes, grouped as follows: a) holding pre-1841 registers, to be closed and deposited in response to the 1992 amendment to the Parochial Registers and Records Measure 1978; b) retaining registers over 100 years old which do not meet the requirements of the measure; c) retaining records over 100 years old.

Report: "Microfilming by the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ Latterday Saints", describing correspondence with Mr J F Packe, the Chief Negotiator of the Genealogical Society of Utah in the British Isles. The report's author and intended audience are not stated, but references to the county record offices of Derbyshire and Devon suggest Joan Sinar, addressing the Derby Diocesan Advisory Committee. Miss Sinar had written "asking how the Society would tackle the microfilming of parish records, what they offered, and what dioceses and record offices had already permitted microfilming". The report summarises the Society's response, outlining its procedures, offer of free microfilm copy, space requirements etc. An appendix summarises the responses from 42 diocesan repositories that Miss Sinar consulted in writing. A key finding is that 24 of the 42 English dioceses outside London have permitted microfilming. The report recommends that Committee invite Mr Packe to speak to them and take questions. |
