| Description | Voices of WWII was a 2004-2005 regional promotional campaign, in assocation with the "BBC WW2 People's War" oral history project. It featured books, audio cassettes, videos and DVDs relating to the Second World War, chosen by library staff working for the nine East Midlands Reader and Library Development (EMRALD) group local authorities.

Digital files, in two folders: "Images": Voices of WWII event poster (pdf); three images copied from black and white photographs dating from around the time of the Second World War, showing: a crowd of women (some in uniform) gathered around a number of suitcases, a Black airman in uniform, a Sikh serviceman in uniform; 22 images of people in a library at a project launch event in Leicester, including the Lord Mayor of Leicester Piara Singh Clair unveiling a display of books, people using resources on library computers and photographs of the audience, a high proportion of whom are in Sikh attire. "WWII": 38 images (jpg) showing scenes from the Second World War, including: bomb-damaged buildings, groups of children (?possibly evacuees), a football team, a group of four American Red Cross volunteer nurses with three US servicemen, three Chinese army officers on a course at University College Leicester 8 May 1944, a group of dignitaries assembled before a large placard listing the members of the United Nations, people holding mugs standing next to a tea van emblazoned "Presented by the People of British Guiana [Guyana] to the People of Britain", a Sikh army regiment, captioned framed photographs on display illustrating the Sikh contribution to military history including Victoria Cross winners Parkash Singh Ji and Nand Singh Ji, photographs of the interior of a gurdwara, an advertisement for a WW2 People's War event hosted by Leicester City libraries service on 17 Nov 2004. |
