Administrative History	The office of Clerk of the Peace pre-dates the existence of county councils by some centuries. Following the Local Government Act 1888, the Clerk of the Peace took on a chief executive role. In Derbyshire County Council, this meant the same officer held the roles of Clerk of the Peace and Clerk to the County Council. The Clerk of the Peace role was abolished by the Courts Act 1971.
