The home, known as Long Close Children's Centre on Cemetery Lane in Ripley, opened 29 June 1979 housing nine children by September 1979. The centre closed in November 1984 following committee approval for closure in July 1984. The premises were being used for integrated living and area offices in July 1985; an elderly persons resource centre in 1987 and since 1989 have accommodated the Amber Valley Social Care Area Offices.
