| Administrative History | Revd Richard Minter, historian of the Jamaican church, who prior to being in Jamaica himself (1938-45), returning to UK as rector of Stow-cum-Quy, Cambridgeshire 1945-97, taught at Egerton Hall theological college Manchester and St Paul’s Missionary College, Burgh, Lincolnshire. He has no connection to Derbyshire.
The only clue to the location is the stamp on the back of the photographer, K.A. Foreman of Boythorpe, a suburb of Chesterfield. The Derby Diocesan office has confirmed that the crozier is the Derby one and the man holding it, to judge by photo of 1939 on the NPG website, does indeed appear to be Bishop Alfred Rawlinson. He looks if anything a bit younger in the stone-laying picture, so presumably very early on his episcopate, which began in 1936. |
| Custodial History | This record was donated to Derbyshire Record Office by the descendant of Revd Minter, via the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide, in June 2023. The photograph was found amongst the papers of Revd Minter, held at the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide. However, he does not feature in the photograph and it is unclear why he may have had the photograph beyond the fact that he built up a wide network of clergy friends and may know one or more of the individuals in the photograph. |
