Administrative History
Board schools were established after the Education Act 1870. According to Kelly's Directory of Derbyshire (1899), Brampton and Walton School Board, consisting of 7 members, was formed on 15 March 1876. Boards were empowered to build new schools in areas of poor educational provision or else to absorb existing schools. Under the Education Act (1902) Board Schools became Council Schools in 1902.
The former National School (erected 1830 for 80 children) came under the control of the Board after its establishment in 1876. The Board erected a mixed school for 300 children at Cutthorpe in 1884 and an infants school for 60 children in Brampton in 1896. Children in Walton usually attended the Board schools at Holymoorside and New Brampton.
