Description
Showing profile of a woman, likely to be the Agrippina who was the mother of the Roman Emperor Nero; taken from "A select Collection of Drawings from curious antique Gems, most of them in the possession of the Nobility and Gentry of this Kingdom, etched after the manner of Rembrandt," by Thomas Worlidge. [Lord Bessborough is likely to be William Ponsonby, 2nd Earl of Bessborough, who had a lifelong interest in art and was a trustee of the British Museum from 1768.]
