Fenley Hunter refers to the question in a previous letter asked by Mary Frances Gell to do with how the Erebus and Terror were powered. He mentions correspondence to Beechy by Mary Frances' grandfather. Hunter writes that he has asked Mr. Stefansson who replied to him on the 19th January the ships were fitted with steam power.
