DescriptionThe three examples comprising (i) a strip with the address of 55 Devonshire Street, Portland Place, 25 Nov 1823, on the reverse of three lines relating to payment only reaching the H.B. [Hudson Bay] Company that month by thir annual ship, briefly mentioning Mr Smith; (ii) the signature of John Franklin, Capt. R.N., Commander of Land Arctic Expedition, Lachine [Quebec, Canada], 22 Aug 1827: and (iii) bottom of letter to Mr Arnot Norton Esq, signed by John Franklin, on the reverse of section of 8 lines relating to payments to Ignace Perrault and J.B. Adam (for services as Interpreter for the Expedition, from which he had been discharged.
