TitleLetter from Eleanor Anne Franklin to her husband John Franklin, on a scientific instrument proposed by Captain Sabine for use in Franklin's second Arctic land expedition
Date[late 1824]
DescriptionCaptain Sabine requests that Franklin will not let Beechey prejudice him against an instrument; he approves it highly and says Franklin will find no difficulty after a little practise; the other has taken a dislike to it without reason; he wants to say it himself to Franklin but commissioned her in case of accident; she hopes the packet will not miss him, or woe betide her sending it; she has not heard from her sister yet.

Transcript or IndexI open my packet to say that Capt.n Sabine requests you will not let Beechey prejudice you against the instrument. He approves it highly & says you will find no difficulty after a little practise. The other he says has taken a dislike to it without reason. He means to say this himself to you if possible, but commissioned me in case of accident.
I hope this same packet will not miss – or woe betide me – for sending its contents – I have not heard from sister yet.

[Addressed to:]
Capt.n Franklin, R.N.
55 Devonshire Street

By favour of Captain Sabine.
