Letter from John Franklin to his sister-in-law Sarah Henrietta Kay, on her son Henry Kay joining the crew of H.M.S. Rainbow, then located at Corfu in the Mediterranean

Description
Delighted that Henry is to join HMS Rainbow. Clarifies detalrs of the available vacancy and surmises how Henry might get to Corfu. Describes advantages of being based at Corfu: pleasant scenery, delightful local society. Describes ship's activities and the historical and political significance of locations visited. Ashamed not to have replied to letters but as Captain he is fully occupied. "I never was in a ship where the officers and men were more zealous or more cheerful." Postscript 3 Jul 1831: orders received to remain at Corfu; has been writing official and private letters for ten hours.
