Mr dear Eleanor,
Had I not received a letter from Mr Sellwood yesterday to request I would without delay send your Father's Portrait and one of your Uncle Willingham to Lady Franklin. I had made up my mind to send that of your dear Father to tou. It did somewhat gladden my heart to find you had a Portrait of my dear Brother in Oil colors. I will not say more on this subject beyond this, that I hace acted to the best of my knowledge and belief for others - not for my own benefit. Amost all the Pictures etc etc came here to be packed off according to their proper places of destination - before the few articles which remained (those which had not been lent to my late dear sister by Hannah, Isabella and myself) were to be offered for sale - with respect to a little Canoe Basket I had frequently heard Jane ask anxiously for any portion however small of the Canoe and with Mr Sellwood's consent I wrote to Jane to say the Basket should be sent as Mr Sellwood gave me permission when he was at Horncaslle to do as I liked with it - but I must now say, that I gave it to Jane with my especial request that it should go to you at her death and never should go out of our own family, for no other family could sufficiently value it. I must entreat that you will not mention this to any one, but your Husband. When I see you, I can explain everything which I have not done. Most ardently do I pray, that unity and concord may be established amongst the differing members of our family by every member of our family for none another. Believe me dear Eleanor with the [...] kind regards of my household to you and Mr Gell I remain

Mary is sometimes a little better but is not materially amended in health. Both Mr Gell and you will understand that mine has been no enviable nor easy task the last few weeks past. I have had many painful portions in my life but few that have equalled in care and anxiety what I have had recently to encounter in myself to give content to others in things over which I had no real control
