Title
Letter from Catherine Cracroft to her cousin Eleanor Isabella Franklin, written prior to Eleanor's marriage, including references to prayers being said for Eleanor's father
Date
[early 1849]
Description
Thanks for sending books, some of which she liked very much, naming Martha Lacey and Leaving on the Beloved. Mama consented to the prayers being offered at St Thomas's tomorrow; who knows what united prayers might bring about. They have enjoyed having Emma S. with them, which has been good for Emma and drawn them out of themselves. Her District work lasted only a short time, in which Eleanor was very good to feel an interest. They had a beautiful sermon last Sunday, "That I may know Him". She wishes Eleanor could be with them at Easter, to be there on Mama's birthday on Easter Sunday, but supposes she will not be able to manage it; it would be good for Eleanor to have some of their lovely weather. What a heavenly minded person Henry [?] Fox must have been so completely given up to his Saviour and be in earnest about his work. She had a letter from Augusta Moore, who sends her love and asks when Eleanor's marriage will be ; they wish to return to England in the summer and speak of settling in Devon. Catherine is very fond of a tract "How shall I come to the Table of the Lord"; she wants some plain work on the Lord's Supper for Barnard who wants to take the sacrament; Caroline Fry has written a little book on the subject.
PS: Eleanor is not to talk about Catherine in any letters to Emma S.; she knows Eleanor does it, and Catherine shrinks from it; she writes in confidence and would be sorry to know what others know about her feelings.
Undated, but "?1849" added in pencil at top.
