Title
Letter from Isabella Cracroft to her niece Eleanor Isabella Gell, following Eleanor's marriage to John Philip Gell
Date
15 Jun [1849]
Description
She has received Eleanor's letter with pleasure from Eastbourne [where she was on her honeymoon]: she hopes God will continue to give her the happiness she rightly enjoys. She was glad to hear from Emma Simpkinson that the eventful day had passed off so well; she hopes Lady Simpkinson has not suffered from the fatigue of the day. She must think of some other trifling present to make, possibly a mat for her drawing room table. Emma S. had told her that lodgings were already secured for Eleanor; she hopes Eleanor will write and tell them when they are likely to be located in town. They are hoping to see Eleanor's Mama today, but her plans are still unsettled: she learned in a letter from Sophy that she did not hear from Eleanor before the Tuesday following the wedding, so the letter must have been delayed. She must be enjoying her present residence. PS. Eleanor can well imagine the pleasure Isabella should have in seeing her if her route took in Winchester.
Only dated 15 June, but 1849 has been added in pencil.
