Administrative History | Percy Tailby and Harold George formed a partnership in 1927, becoming Tailey and George Ltd in 1937. Their bus service became known as The Blue Bus Service and in around 1930, the company moved their operation to premises on Repton Road, Willington. A second route between Derby and Burton, via Etwall, Egginton and Stretton was added. Following the deaths of Harold George in 1955 and Percy Tailby in 1957 the company continued, being run by members of the Tailby and George families. At the end of 1973 the then proprietors, Mr. & Mrs Marshall, the latter being the daughter of Percy Tailby, retired. The operation of the Blue Bus Service passed to Derby Corporation, which became Derby Borough Transport in 1974. In 1976 a fire destroyed the Blue Bus Services depot and its fleet of vehicles. By the time Derby Borough Transport became Derby City Transport and then subsequently privatised, the name Blue Bus Services had fallen out of use. |
