Typescript programme for proposed exploration of caves, mines etc. in Matlock Bath, led by Doug Nash, dated 23 Apr 1949. First page lists personnel involved. Pages 2 and 3 list kit required. Page 4 lists suggested rations. Pages 4 to 5 define the safety signals to be used with whistles or tugs on life-lines. Remaining pages cover other procedures to be observed, including on page 6 that "the trip [is] hereafter to be known as 'Operation Mole', and to be quoted as such in communications".
A copy of what appears to be Doug Nash's first letter to Nellie Kirkham, dated 4 May 1949, in which he explains that she had been described to him as an authority on Derbyshire lead mines, and introduces to her his plans for research and exploration into some of them.
Kirkham's reply, dated 6 May 1949, suggesting they might meet so that she could offer advice.
