Administrative HistoryJanette Sykes was a teenager when she first secured employment as a journalist in the 1970s, when the industry was very much a "man's world". She worked for a Public Relations company in Manchester, in the press office for Derbyshire County Council, in public relations for the Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Board including during the 2012 Olympics, helped to set up the High Peak Courier newspaper and was launch editor for Peak District Life. At the time of the interview she continued to work as a freelance writer producing short stories and poems, as well as regularly contributing articles to Practical Caravan magazine.
