Administrative HistoryThe charity was set up in 1705 when Mr George Storer conveyed land and property in and around the village of Heage to a group of Trustees. The income from the property and land was used to provide support and education for the poor of the village, also providing money to buy tools for young people to access apprenticeships. The charity built a schoolroom around 1810 to educate up to 30 boys and girls. A payment was made to the Orthodox Minister to preach two sermons each Trinity Sunday at Heage Chapel.
In 2016, the charity continues to support Heage residents by providing grants to local widows and also students accessing apprenticeships, further or higher education. It also supports local community groups serving Heage and Nether Heage.
Custodial HistoryThese records were deposited by the Secretary and Trustees of the George Storer Charity in August 2016.
