| Description | Junction Arts created "Can-Do" clubs in two different schools: 1. A club aiming to improve literacy levels among children and parents at Park Infants School, Shirebrook. It met for a two-hour session every week. The club appears to have been re-named Word Magic! Artists employed: Alan Kirkpatrick of No Strings Puppets, Mansfield, for a series of workshops; Nick Toczek, poet and storyteller, to work at the school for two days and give a performance. 2. A club set up at Brockley School, aiming to "increase skills, aspirations and self esteem of children attending". The Brockley club appears to have been less focused on literacy, and the activities planned for participants included "Asian crafts, flag/kite making, children's crafts" and participation in the 2001 Bolsover Lantern Festival. Project file includes: Project Profile describing the project over four pages, typed notes on possible obstacles faced by the project, budgeting information and artists' contracts. Also includes advertisement for "Word Magic!" at Park Infant School. |
