| Description | By which in consideration of a marriage between Robert Tunsteed the younger, son and heir apparent of Robert the elder, and Elizabeth Smith grandchild of George Bowden and for £200 which Bowden promised to pay to 1. and his son ie £53 6s 8d to 1. on 1 May, the same on 1 May next year, the same on 1 May 1622, and £40 on 12 May next ensuing the date hereof to Robert the son, of which George shall abate £10 of the £40 in consideration thereof promising to set forth his grandchild decently with apparel and one bed, providing that if Elizabeth should die before payments are due and leaving no issue by Robert the younger living, the unpaid sums are not to be paid, Robert Tunstead the elder covenanted to convey all his properties in Chapel `in' le Frith and Glossop or elsewhere to William Bradshawe of the Broock Howsses [Chapel en le Frith] and Thomas Bowdon of the Lanesyde [Chapel en le Frith] yeoman to the uses as follows as to two thirds to the use of Robert Tunstead the elder for life, as to 1/3 to Robert the younger and Elizabeth for their lives, in full satisfaction of dower and jointure of Elizabeth; and at the death of Robert the elder, if Anne his wife survives him, half of the 2/3 to the use of Anne for life in satisfaction of dower and jointure, the other half of the 2/3 and the reversion of Anne's half and the reversion of the third granted to Robert the younger and Elizabeth, to Robert the younger and his heirs male by Elizabeth, with successive remainders to Robert the younger and his heirs male, Thomas Tunstead, second son of Robert the elder and his heirs male, Anthony Tunstead, third son of Robert the elder, and heirs male, Francis, fourth son of Robert the elder, and heirs male, and any further sons and their heirs male, and finally the right heirs of Robert the younger for ever; if Robert the younger should die without heirs male by Elizabeth and leaving issue ... (missing) by Elizabeth, then the trustees are to stand seised of the property (after the uses limited to Robert the elder and Anne his wife and to Robert the younger and Elizabeth) to the use of such daughters until they have levied from the premises £240, unless such male issue as shall have inheritance of the premises pay to the daughters £240 or £200 if there is only one daughter; if Elizabeth dies without issue before the £160 due to be paid to Robert the elder becomes payable, then the trustees shall stand seised to the use of Robert the elder and his heirs until such time as the sums are paid by anyone who has any use in the lands limited and appointed by these presents.
Robert the elder covenanted with Bowdon that before 1 May he will convey to Robert the younger, his term of years in a pasture called Chinley alias Maynstonefield in parish of Glossop to the use, as to one half of Robert the elder, for the term, if he lives so long, the rest of the term to the use of Robert the younger, and he will keep Robert the younger, Elizabeth and their children with sufficient meat, drink, lodging and fire fit for their several callings so long as they cohabit with Robert the elder, and he will pay £5 annually for their better maintenance, apparelling and livelihood, and when Robert and Robert `depart house', he will give to Robert the younger, half of his husbandry ware or implements of husbandry and will leave to his son his best meal ark, best malt ark, best chest, best dishboard, best pot, best table with the frame, to have as `heires-loomes'.
