DescriptionReciting marriage settlement dated 13 May 1742 of James Shuttleworth and Mary Holden, by which several rent charges of £1,400 and £100 a year were secured to Mary, out of premises in county York, from the death of James, for her jointure and in bar of dower and reciting indenture of 10 February instant made between 1. John Tempest 2. Mary Shuttleworth 3. Robert Shuttleworth and 4. Frances Michell widow, in which, in consideration of Robert having agreed to secure a rent charge of £1,500 on Mary for life out of premises in county Lancaster (excepting those lands comprised in release dated 14 May 1776 before Robert's marriage with Anne Desaguliers) the rents whereof amount together to £1,980, the rent charges of £1,400 and £100 were exstinguished and witnessing that in consideration of the agreement, the exstinguishing of the rent charges and 10s paid by 3. to 1. and for securing £1,500 on Mary Shuttleworth, 1. released the manor of Bilsborow or Bilsborough, county Lancaster, Gawthorp Hall in Habergham Eaves ("Habergameaws") and demesne lands belonging, messuage called Cornfield in Ightenhill Park and lands belonging, mills in Burnley and Clitheroe, messuages, cottages, farms, mills, lands, tenements, tithes, rents in Bilsborow or Bilsborough, Preston, Kidnap, Chipping, Whittingham, Ightenhill or Ightenhill Park, Breadhead Moor, Saxifield, Marsden, Briarcliffe, Pendle Forest, Eccleshill, Daviefield, Blackburn, "Gawthrop" [Gawthorpe], Burnley, Pendleton, "Whalea" [Whalley], Habergham Eaves, Little Ightenhill, Padiam or Padiham, Henthorn, Over Darwin, Clideroe or Clitheroe, Simonstone, Inskip, Sowerby, Warton, Mighall and Lancaster, county Lancaster (except the manor of Barton in Amoundernesse, Barton Hall or Lodge and demesne lands, and all properties including mills and tithes in Barton Manor and in township of Goosnargh, which are comprised in the settlement of 14 May, 1776) to 3 in trust for Mary Shuttleworth to receive £1,500 annually out of the premises.
