Title
Will of William Haywood of Stanelowe (Co Stafford) gent reciting that Thomas Walker, Richard Browne of Thornyhall, John Sydney, yeoman, and John Wright, perpetual vicar of Madeley ,stand seised of closes and pastures within the township of Clayton and Seabridge, parcel of the manor of Newcastle under Lyme, called the Penfeld, the Longefeld, and the Foureacres, and of one croft called Cowpers Yard in Whitmore, parcel of the said manor, to fulfil the last will of William: the feoffees are now to stand seized of the said premises to the use of John Haywood, son of William, and the heirs male of his body: and in default to the use of Richard Haywood, son of William and the heirs male of his body; and in default to the right heirs of William; upon condition that John, Richard, and heirs pay annually to the wardens of the stock and goods of our blessed lady of Madeley 20 shillings toward the funding of one honest priest to say divine service for the souls of William's parents, his ancestors, himself, his wife, for the souls of his heirs who provide the 20s, and for all Christian souls; and upon condition for the feoffees to make a lawful estate of the lands aforesaid to the wardens above mentioned of William or they acquire licence to alienate in mortmain, the chaplain and priest saying yearly 30 masses for the souls abovesaid at the altar of our lady of pity; and the chaplain to celebrate divine service in William's house upon reasonable request, and similarly on the decease of William for John or his other heirs when sickness stops him or them attending mass or other divine service in the parish church. Feoffees to have the power to appoint new trustees when their number is reduced to two
