TitleRod Thackray collection of papers relating to small scale drift mining
Date[1940s-1980s]
DescriptionPlans, photographs and other papers relating to small scale drift mining on the area around Ludworth Moor, Marple, Chisworth and Compstall in the Peak District. The photographs have come from various sources, including some taken by the donor from when he was aged 16, upto the time of the mine closures. Some of the photos were also taken by Stockport Museum, and some by the Peak District Mining Museum. They show small family or one-man mining operations selling coal locally at a remarkably late date, and also include pictures of holes in the ground, and some from underground, such as clay pipes and sledges.

The collection also contains working plans, including some dyeline photocopies of now lost plans, produced at Oddo & Arkwright.
