This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
A Plan of Wheal and Crotie Sough with the neither part of Hubbadale Mine and the sundry veins possess'd in its title. By J. Dawson, fecit. [176-?] Surveyor: James Dawson. Scale: of 200 yards [1:1440]: decorated with cupids, miner, ore dresser. Size: 76 x 168 cm. Materials: coloured ink on paper. Centred on: SK142695 Notes: compass rose, top of sheet NNE. Mining plan showing routes and lengths of the soughs named, Hubbadale Vein, 17 other veins and rakes crossing, some named, measured in meers: named shafts: 'Horse gin' in perspective: highly coloured, crudely ornate decoration: plan edge has repeat design of oak leaves in yellow border: title cartouche decorative deer: surveyor, with back sight, using dividers on plan.
