Administrative History
Rev. J.R. Luxmoore was a vicar at Ashford and he probably laid the foundations of this collection. The majority of the collections consists of secondary material, being notes, mainly for a history of the parish of Ashford-in-the-Water and for a Derbyshire bibliography, compiled by the Rev. J.S. Luxmoore who died in 1940.
Custodial History
This collection was donated to Sheffield City Libraries in 1940 by the daughter of J. S. Luxmoore [Sheffield reference 29321-29393] and transferred from Sheffield Archives to Derbyshire Record Office in July 2013 and August 2018.
Arrangement
The original list provided by Sheffield Archives did not assign a particular arrangement to the records. The present catalogue arranges the records as far as possible by what is likely to be the original order, for example, the 57 bundles of genealogical research under D7672/5/1. Original archives have been grouped together under series D7672/1 and D7672/2, with the arrangement in the first series according following that in which the items were received by Derbyshire Record Office in 2013. The research materials have then been grouped into transcripts and copies of original archives (D7672/3), local history research (D7672/4) and genealogical research, including some material which appears to be based on location rather than family (D7672/5).
