Administrative HistoryEdward Stanley was baptised at Tutbury in 1802. He and and his wife Mary had two sons baptised at Tutbury: Joseph in 1830 and Thomas in 1834, at which times Edward's occupation was recorded as maltster. In the census of June 1841 Edward is recorded as a farmer in Scropton, in the household of his widowed mother Ann Stanley. She had made her will earlier that year, leaving her household goods, farming stock and implements, as well as some money, to Edward. She died in 1845. The census of 1851 records Edward at Scropton, farming 33 acres. Edward's wife Mary died in 1856 and Edward died in 1858: their grave at Scropton is marked by a memorial stone.
